Description

The Neti Pot is a small pot used for nasal irrigation. The nasal cavity is washed to flush out excess mucus and debris from the nose and sinuses. Cleaning can be with warm solution with or without natural additives. In the Ayurveda tradition, Neti cleansing helps Kapha inbalance and so to naturally relieve allergies, nasal congestion, sinus infections, pressure, asthma, colds, headaches, post-nasal drip or low immune system. Ideal before meditation or Pranayama which involve deep breathing through the nostrils. Jala Neti is often used up to 4 times a day.

Nasal irrigation or nasal lavagehas been practised in India for centuries as one of the disciplines of yoga. The Sanskrit term "Jala Neti" (also "Naysa Neti") is an ancient yoga cleaning technique for water cleansing where the nasal passage is rinsed out with water (often salted) using the neti pot. You can often see it now referred to purely as nasal irrigation.

Ordinary cold tap water is often thought to be uncomfortable and dangerous because it may irritate the mucous membranes. Never use nonsterilized tap water in neti pots. Fill pots only with distilled, sterile or previously boiled water, and to rinse and dry them after each use.

Lukewarm water with an isotonic or hypertonic saline solution is mostly used, i.e. water with enough salt to at least match the tonicity of the body cells. Similarly, a small amount of baking soda may adjust the pH valueto that of the body. A home recipe for an isotonic solution might be 1/2 litre of water, a teaspoon or 5mm of salt and optionally another 5mm of baking soda for an isotonic solution (or double the salt for a hypertonic solution)

Many herbs and oils can also be mixed in. For example, Goldenseal Root (Hydrastis Canadensis), Zinc, Echinacea, Grapefruit Seed extract either as water based or oil (olive, sesame or ti tree oil).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR NETI POT USE

  1. Rinse out neti pot to remove any dust
  2. Fill with warm water
  3. Fully dissolve measured 1/4 teaspoon sea table salt (salinity needs to equal that of your body tissue)
  4. Lean over basin  / shower / bath and tilt head to one side
  5. Place neti pot spout tip against your upturned nostril.
  6. DO NOT INHALE but gently pour in and across the nasal cavity and out the other nostril. Gravity will cause the water to flow correctly.
  7. GENTLY blow your nose without closing off one nostril, you may have to practice a few times, but forcing a nostril closed and blowing may injure your inner ear.
  8. Repeat steps 2-7 on the other nostril.
  9. Rinse the neti pot thoroughly.

Reviews & Advice:

"I ordered the units after trialling a plastic one for a couple of months – My sinuses have never been better or my general health. Then I lost my pot when staying at a motel, so quickly ordered the new ones from yourself – got to say I’ve felt a little lost with out it! So I am looking forward to receiving the new ones with great enthusiasm."
